– [Narrator] This is Leo,
and Leo knows the secret to creating limitless motivation. But before we can talk about that we need to first understand his childhood. Leo was born into the slums of Brazil known as the Favelas. And this area is filled
with crime, drugs, danger and there essentially is no government enforcing any laws here. And Leo had a pretty rough childhood, he never met his Dad and
his Mom worked all the time in order to put food on the table for him and his little brother. And she was the most important
person to him in his life. But one day Leo’s Mom got very sick. And there wasn’t a
hospital for them to go to and they couldn’t really
afford to go to the city and pick up the right medical supplies. Leo and his brother did
everything they could to help her but she didn’t make it and she died. At the young age of 17, Leo had now become the man of the house. He had no money, no
expertise, no education, but he had to somehow figure out a way to provide for himself and
his eight year old brother. And if he couldn’t figure this out, him and his brother probably wouldn’t be able to live long lives. At first Leo tried to do legitimate work for people around the
city, stuff like cleaning, shopping, that kind of thing. But he quickly realized
that this kind of work would not be enough plus a lot of the time the locals would scam him or they wouldn’t be able
to pay him enough money so things quickly went
from being bad to worse. And he was slowly running out of options. So one day Leo was walking around the city and he was starving, he was literally willing to
do anything to get some food. And he noticed there was a
house with an open back door. He looked inside and saw
this big platter of bread, wine and cheese and just looking at this made his mouth water. And without thinking, Leo went in there and tried to take some. As he was packing up the food in his bag, he was caught by a group of three men and they threatened to take his life for what he was doing. He begged them to spare
his life and he told them that he had a younger brother
and that he had a future and that we would do
anything just to let him go. And luckily they did let him go but there was a cost. They took all of his money, they took the only bag that he had and they even took the
shoes off of his feet. When Leo walked home that day, he didn’t feel like a real person. He felt broken and lost. And when Leo walked through the door and made eye contact with his
incredibly skinny brother, he just burst into tears. Leo knew how hungry his little brother was and how we would pray every
night for him to simply come home with just a little bit of food. They both were starving
and they both were slowly giving up all hope. The next day, Leo was once
again walking in the streets but this time a man caught his eye. This man was tall and he was
wearing these nice black shoes which was not very common in this area. The man looked confused and lost which was a dangerous state to be in in a place like the Favelas. Maybe this man can buy me if
I can help him with something, Leo thought to himself. So he went up to the man and asked, “Hey Sir, are you lost?” And it turned out he was
a wealthy business man who was from the city center of Rio and he had come to explore the Favelas. After they had talked for a little bit and established a little bit of trust, Leo said, “Look, I’ll make you a deal. “You are probably going to get robbed, “if you keep walking around
like the way you are. “I’ll show you around the Favelas “if you buy me groceries for the week.” The wealthy man paused
for a second and said, “Okay, deal.” So they spent the whole day walking around and Leo knew every detail about his city, he knew where the best views were, which areas to avoid,
even the secret places that only the locals knew about. And the wealthy man was so
impressed by Leo’s knowledge that he actually offered
to buy him dinner. And of course, Leo said yes. And as the wealthy man watched Leo stuff his face with food, he asked, “How come you want me
to buy you groceries? “I feel like most boys your age “would rather spend
money on other things?” And this question led
Leo to tell him the story about his Mom’s death and how he had to provide for his brother and how they were basically starving. This story really moved the wealthy man and he wanted to help. So the wealthy man said, “Look, I actually run a tourism business “in the city center of Rio “where wealthy tourists
from all over the world “come and get shown around the city “and not a single one of my tour guides “were as nearly as
thorough as you were today. “If you knew this much
about the city center of Rio “you would be the best tour guide by far.” And without hesitation
Leo said, “I’ll do it. “I’ll come work for you right now, “just take me and my brother
and I’ll start tomorrow.” The wealthy man looked
at him and quietly said, “No, but I will give you these books “describing the tours that we offer “and you will need to
read through all of them “and learn everything you can about Rio, “the history, the
attractions, the street names, “I mean everything. “And if you pass my test I
will consider bringing you on.” The man gave Leo the books,
paid for his groceries and he told him that he would
return in about two weeks. And when Leo got home he
just looked at all the books. It reminded him of when he was in school and how overwhelmed he would feel when he had to read books for his classes. See, Leo had actually
dropped out of school at a very early age because
his teachers and peers labeled him as incompetent and stupid. And they basically told him that he wouldn’t be successful and all these voices still
deeply haunted him to this day. And Leo thought to himself, this is crazy. Should I actually spend my time reading these books while I could be out trying to get more food? But then he looked over
at his incredibly skinny, starving brother. And he realized that he had to try. Leo gave pretty much all
the groceries to his brother so it would last him two weeks instead of lasting them both one week. So that means that Leo
barely ate, barely slept, and he spent the next two
weeks glued to those books. He would spend 20 minutes
reading a single page, sounding out every word, looking
up the meaning of the words and he dissected
everything in these books. And he would constantly
hear those voices of doubt in his head. You’re a stupid kid, you’re a loser, you aren’t good enough. You aren’t the type of person who can pull these types of miracles off. Leo felt like he was slowly going insane. Fast forward 12 days and Leo
hears a knock on the door. Leo opened the door and he
saw the tall, wealthy man. And he had a big smile on his face. “You ready?” the man said. Leo replied with, “I hope so.” And for the next six hours
Leo was drilled with questions asking him why is this street important, what is this area called,
what building is that, why do we avoid that area? And this went on and on and on. But eventually it was over. The wealthy man closed his book and said, “Okay, I’ll think about it. “And I’ll come back to you in a few days “with a decision.” And just like that he was gone. And every hour that went by,
Leo wondered about the man. Both him and his brother’s entire futures was riding on this. Their survivability was riding on this. And two days later, the man returned. And he was driving a big van. And Leo ran outside and asked, “Did I pass, can I jump in
the car with you right now?” The wealthy man paused
for a moment and said, “No, you can’t. “Pack your bags, get your brother “and then you can come
in the van with me.” And within the hour they were gone. And over the next few months, Leo became one of the
hardest working employees in the company and over the next few years he even started to work side
by side the wealthy man. And they turned that company into one of the top tourism companies in all of South America. Leo was able to provide
for himself, his brother and start a family. So what is Leo’s secret to motivation? And how can you unlock your motivation? The reason why Leo is so motivated is because he was
grateful for every moment that he spent outside the favelas. He was grateful that he
could be in an environment where he could go outside
and not fear for his life. And he was grateful that
he didn’t have to resort to stealing or selling drugs or all sorts of other crazy things in order to put food on the table. He was grateful for every
breath that he took. And he will never forget
where he came from. This gratittuted idea is the key to unlock that limitless motivation. Because when you truly understand just how lucky you are to even have access to things like the internet or
having a roof over your head or even having the option
to start a business, you will want to seize
every single opportunity that is placed in front of you. When you become grateful, you won’t need to watch any
more motivational videos. Check out my last video about
the real truth about success. And I’ll see you there.

  1. This one took a lot of effort. Really hope you guys enjoy it!

    *EDIT*
After reading some comments, I see that I didn't do the best job ending the story… When Leo was in Poverty, he was motivated because he had to survive. But the reason why he was so successful in the Tourism company, and the reason why he moved up so fast, was because he was grateful to be in a position where he was NOT in Poverty, and he was not in danger.

I Should have made that clearer, will learn from the mistake and make the next story better.

  2. Why is it so hard ? just born in rich family. why you have to do all those shitty way of thinking ? In the end, both are end up 6 feet under. 🤦🏻‍♂️🤦🏻‍♂️

  3. Imho you missed the point why he is grateful.
    1. he had his mother that raised him grateful

    2. after his mom died, he had someone he loved and wanted to care, even risking his own for, his brother
    3. he had someone who loved him and needed him. again his lil brother.

Do you think his life would have the same course if he didn't had his lil brother he cared for after his mother died? Imho not.
We need positive social interaction and need to be raised as nice social beings and not as egoistic capitalists.

If you motivste yourself with selfish desires, you just become an egoist. The reason of motivation is important. He learned from his mother to care for others and that is what makes him grateful and such a nice guy.

  4. If he was so desperate for food why didn't he buy it? He obviously had money when he stole the wine and cheese. This is an example of bad story-telling skills.

  5. Y'all in the comments a bunch of dumbf***ks
You don't understand that being grateful is one of the most important key to live a good life so he had a point there ,anyways good video man👍🏻

  6. Its really hard to find good ppl in this world. This is kind of miracle for leo. And miracle does not happen to everyone.

  7. I see a lot of ungratefulness in the comments here which I find ironic, given the point of this video.

I am an American and I moved to Belize a few years ago. Chose to come to the poorest district.

I am no longer in the poorest district but Belize as a country is far poorer (financially) than where I come from.

I've SEEN for myself where people who are impoverished NEED attention. They NEED opportunities. If you gave them an opportunity, they would work tooth-and-nail for you, as long as you give them the minimal. Of course – as with any culture – there are thieves but I have sen children without shoes and families surviving miraculously on $200 USD a MONTH!

How can they read when they didn't even LEARN to read??

Be compassionate. Be grateful. Be gracious and humble.

I LOVED this video and I thank you for it. I have shared it on my FB and hope at least just ONE person who is feeling hopeless here in Belize – or elsewhere – benefits from it. I am sure they will.

  8. Man was designed to be in a naturally motivated state of mind, always wanting to learn things and do things. Then toxins and low quality food makes us sick and unmotivated. Eat a ton of protein and fruit and vegetables and you will get your health back.

  9. The dude with the tourism business saw the motivation in the helpless dude because of his faith in himself and his abilities. So, become the best at whatever you do and your confidence will skyrocket. People are more likely to help you when you believe in yourself.

  10. Nice story.  It seems that your protagonist was motivated purely by his desire to break away from his extremely hazardous environment.  While this would be powerful motivation for most people in this situation, it has little to do with people who did NOT grow up in that environment.

  11. No need to change anything. wonderful story. beautiful! you are a teacher…a lot to learn from a simple touching story. thank you! ♥️ + Gratitude = ♥️

  12. very nice, but to me..not the grateful thing matters alone, what matters in life that you have to be prospective sourroundet by hidden helpers, who serve you opportunities . and you need to intent to to them. the second thing is, you always have to give, before you get! and third thing is, not your wishes will come true, if you are just grateful. you need a "reason" for all that, which keeps you running, and not give up. i assume, without his responsibility for his brother, he would have choosen much easier the simple way of drugs, or the dark way to get money by steeling it, or take suizid, whatever. all people who care for sombody they love, or they depend on you, know what im talking about. this guy had so much helpers on the "outside" to overcome, in spite of everything. but you only count just one capability..? thats why people fail so often by imitate the proposal, cause they are concentrate on just "on simple thing", without taking all the other points they matter as well in common, or more to survive hunger and desperation without using criminal aktivities.

  14. This is my last motivational video.
I will not see the motivational videos any more. Because I am going to be rich.
It's Nice " Gratefulness to every breath I take is the Key 🗝 of success

The Bible also said The Love of the money leads to more Poverty.
Proverbs 23:4-5  Do not wear yourself out to get rich; do not trust your own cleverness.Cast but a glance at riches, and they are gone, for they will surely sprout wings and fly off to the sky like an eagle.

Ecclesiastes 5:10  Whoever loves money never has enough; whoever loves wealth is never satisfied with their income. This too is meaningless.

Proverbs 11:4 Wealth is worthless in the day of wrath, but righteousness delivers from death.

Proverbs 11:28 He who trusts in his riches will fall, but the righteous shall flourish as the green leaf.

  15. So people on other countries think that living in a slum is THAT easy? hahahah Go and steal there and you would NEVER EVER leave alive. Just for istance, thiefs are burned with old tires on the top of the slum at nights. Also, theres no government there because the drug dealers actually (for your foreign surprise) take care of the population there.

I mean, its not a good thing this happen this way, but you just make a video talking shit about something you not even care to uderstand the complexity. Has a brazilian, i can say its sounds complete disrespectful and hypocritical.

Another point: No one would ever take you in a tour inside a slum because the drug dealers would kill both of you since they believe everyone can be a spy or something.

Your video is just a history you came up, it has nothing to do with the reality.

  16. This story is very similar to Eloi D'Ávila's story, also from Brazil. He start working at 8. Nowadays he is the CEO of a tourism company that earns more than US$1,000,000,000.00 a year! If you can understand portuguese, watch https://youtu.be/IkCBwhOd_d4

  17. The story and its moral was fucking off!!! Even little kids tell very meaningful and excellent stories den this youtuber unconscious story maker guy🙂

  18. Not everyone gets to meet a person like Leo met the other guy, not everyone gets lost…. great story but only one in thousand can get lucky!

  19. Dude was fucking starving and desperate, that does a LOT to anyone, dumb ass story about how we should be "happy" because we get to watch the fucking Kardashians get rich off nothing. Nice story and waste of total time. Jack ass!

  20. I don’t think the real reason is because he was grateful, I think it’s because his options were to either survive or die, that was his mentality.

  21. Hi, I'm a wealthy man, I'm also tall, I have black shoes and I'm lost in the Favelas.

I also carry a lot of books and this description doesn't make any sense.

  22. 5:12 NO…..LMAO🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣

  23. Remember
Brazil has richness too is not just poorness
I am Brazilian and i for example don’t have any necessities i have always i want. So dont be frivolous and try to search things before saying

  24. It would be way more accurate if Leo and all the other characters were black. I bet the writer has never been to Brazil neither to a favela.

  25. Gratitude didn't save him, luck did. This piece did the opposite of motivation. It helped verify there isn't hope.

  26. This was so meaningless actually. Being grateful was NOT the thing that gave him his motivation. being grateful was for AFTER becoming a part of that company. The real motivation for him was his NEED, and also having only a single purpose and wanting something so badly. being grateful was NOT the thing that gave him motivation.
